Mini biography
Bas Devos was born in Zoersel, Belgium in 1983.
Since graduating, Bas Devos has made two shorts, THE CLOSE and WE KNOW.
His first feature, VIOLET (2014), won the Jury Prize at Berlinale Generation and was selected for New Directors New Films at The MOMA, New York.
"I am interested in contrasting the slowness... with everything constantly moving at the speed of light."
“I am attracted to something on the border of the narrative—where the story ends, but the image and sound linger. This almost “dangerous” moment, where seemingly nothing happens, but the audience connects to the world as seen or heard by the filmmaker. I suppose that’s the moment when the most interesting questions arise.”
His second feature HELLHOLE (2019) was selected for Berlinale Panorama.
His third feature GHOST TROPIC (2019) premiered at Quinzaine des Réalisateurs.
His latest feature, HERE (2023), was selected at Berlinale.
