Parviz Kimiavi (Born in 1939) is an internationally acclaimed Iranian film director, screenwriter, editor and one of the most prominent figures of iranian cinema of the 20th century.
Kimiavi studied photography and film at l’École Louis Lumière (Louis Lumiere School of Cinematography) and IDHEC.
His works gained critical success and won several prizes in important international events such as Berlin and Cannes.
Parviz Kimiavi worked after finishing his photography and film studies in Paris for two years as assistant director at the French TV ORTF.
In 1969 he returned to Iran and made several documentaries and feature films, like most Iranian New Wave (Moje No) filmmakers have a documentary and narrative film at the same time.
The early 80s he went to Paris and worked as a director of documentaries for French television. In 1999 he returned to Iran for completing the work on his first feature film after 23 years.
